NEXT TO THE GARDEN DESIGN MUSEUM IN LAMBETH

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

THE FOCAL POINT OF THE DESIGN IS THE WATER FEATURE

WHICH CAN BE VIEWED FROM EVERY PART OF THE GARDEN.

THE DIVISIONS IN THE GARDEN ARE GENERATED BY THE
EXISTING LONDON PLANE TREES TO CREATE A STRUCTURAL
GRID OVERLAYING THE FREE-FORM OF THE WATER FEATURE.

CORETEN STEEL PLATES PROVIDE PHYSICAL BARRIERS

TO HIGHLIGHT THE GRID AND CREATE IDENTIFIABLE SPACES.

THE LINEAR POND REFLECTS THE MEANDERING CURVES OF

THE NEARBY THAMES, WHILST THE OBELISK FEATURES MAKE
REFERENCE TO THOSE ON LAMBETH BRIDGE.
THE PLANTING DESIGN IS INTENDED TO BLEND SUBTLY AND
CONTRAST WITH THE CORTEN STEEL.

ALL THE PROPOSED TREES HAVE DISTINCTIVE FLOWERS,

BERRIES, AND AUTUMN COLOUR.

THE BARK OF Acer griseum PROVIDES TEXTURAL

INTEREST AND REFLECTS THE HUE OF THE CORTEN STEEL.

THE YELLOW LIME LEAVES AND THE LARGE CREAM
SUMMER FLOWERS OF Catalpa bignonioides ‘Aurea’ CONTRAST

WITH THE RUST HUES OF THE CORTEN STEEL AND MAPLE

BARK.

THE PERENNIAL BEDS NEAR THE WATER WILL ADD INTEREST

AND STRUCTURE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, ALONG WITH

THE EVERGREEN SCENTED SHRUBS.

A MASS OF BULBS WILL CREATE COLOUR IN THE SPRING.
